Careers — 01

Engineer buildings people actually use.

Simply Structural is a Phoenix structural engineering firm with 20+ years of commercial and industrial work in 28 states. We're hiring two engineers — one senior, one early-career — who want real projects and real responsibility.
Why engineers stay — 02

Principal-level access from day one.

Most structural engineering jobs put you in a corner: same connection details, same reviews, years before your name means anything. We're built differently — small team, principal-level access from day one, and project variety that big firms can't offer.

  • 01

Work directly with our Principal Engineer — licensed across multiple states, 20+ years of practice — not through layers of managers.

  • 02

Touch the full project lifecycle: proposal, design, construction documents, shop drawing review, and field questions.

  • 03

A real path up: PE exam pass bonus, licensure fees covered, and growth into project leadership as the firm grows.

The work — 03

Design work that shows up in the built world.

From a 1.2 million sq ft tilt-up logistics center to schools, multi-story storage, and mixed-use developments — our projects are substantial and varied. Our Value Engineering work recently saved one client $95,000 on a single 417,000 sq ft facility.

Elwood Logistics Center — 1.2M sq ft tilt-up
States Logistics — 417K sq ft distribution
Sunlit Chemical — 130K sq ft plant
Tolleson Union High School
Multi-story self-storage (multi-state)
Austin, TX mixed-use development
Benefits — 04

Built to keep good engineers.

  • Competitive compensation, set to Phoenix market — not below it
  • PE exam pass bonus
  • Multi-state licensure and renewal fees covered
  • Relocation assistance available case-by-case — Phoenix cost of living is a raise if you're coming from California
  • Stable, 20-year firm with steady work across 28 states

You'll work directly with our Principal Engineer as a peer — carrying your own projects from proposal through construction, with real client contact, real design authority, and a firm small enough that your judgment shows up in the built work.

What you'll do

  • Lead structural design on commercial, industrial, and tenant-improvement projects — concept through construction documents through CA.
  • Carry projects independently: client coordination, design decisions, deliverable quality, and schedule.
  • Perform and direct analysis in RISA-3D / RISA Floor / RISA Connection, Enercalc, and vendor design tools (Hilti PROFIS, Simpson Strong-Tie).
  • Review shop drawings and submittals in Bluebeam; support special field inspections when needed.
  • Contribute to Value Engineering — a core firm strength (a recent VE redesign saved a client $95K on a 417,000 sq ft facility).
  • Mentor junior engineers as the team grows.

The work is substantial

Recent projects include a 1.2M sq ft tilt-up logistics center (Elwood Logistics Center), a 417K sq ft distribution facility (States Logistics), a 130K sq ft chemical plant (Sunlit Chemical), Tolleson Union High School, multi-story self-storage across several states, and an Austin, TX mixed-use development. This is not a plan-stamping mill — it's genuine design work at scale.

Must-haves

  • PE license (Arizona, or licensed in another state and able to obtain AZ by comity promptly).
  • 6–10+ years of structural design experience in buildings (commercial / industrial preferred).
  • Able to run projects independently — analysis, documentation, and client communication.
  • Working proficiency in structural analysis software (RISA suite or equivalent — we'll bridge tool-specific gaps).
  • In-office role at our Phoenix office (52nd St & McDowell area). This is how we work and mentor — no hybrid or remote.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. We are not able to sponsor visas.

Nice-to-haves

  • Licenses in multiple states (we practice in 28 — we pay licensure and renewal fees).
  • S.E. license or progress toward it.
  • Tilt-up, cold-formed steel, or storage/warehouse project experience.
  • AutoCAD fluency for construction documents.

Compensation & benefits

  • $110,000 – $140,000 depending on experience and licensure. (Phoenix market: senior structural engineers average ~$106K, with experienced 8+ year seniors averaging ~$135K.)
  • Relocation assistance available, case-by-case — Phoenix cost of living is a genuine raise for engineers coming from coastal markets.
  • Multi-state licensure fees and continuing education covered.
  • PTO, holidays, retirement, and insurance — details shared during the interview.
Role 02 — EIT

Structural Engineer (EIT)

This is an early-career role for an engineer with an FE/EIT who wants to grow toward a PE with direct mentorship — not another cubicle churning out connection details for years before your name means anything.

What you'll do

  • Support structural design on commercial and industrial projects — analysis, calculations, and construction documents.
  • Work side-by-side with our Principal Engineer on real design decisions, not busywork.
  • Grow into full project lifecycle exposure: proposal, design, CDs, shop drawing review, and field questions.
  • Contribute to Value Engineering studies alongside senior staff.
  • Build toward carrying your own smaller projects as you progress.

Must-haves

  • FE / EIT certification (PE not required — this role is on the PE track).
  • ABET-accredited degree in civil or structural engineering.
  • Comfort with structural analysis fundamentals; exposure to RISA, Enercalc, or similar is a plus (we'll teach the tools).
  • In-office role at our Phoenix office (52nd St & McDowell area) — this is how we mentor.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. We are not able to sponsor visas.

Nice-to-haves

  • Internship or co-op experience in structural design.
  • AutoCAD fluency for construction documents.
  • Exposure to Bluebeam for markups and submittals.

Compensation & path

  • Competitive Phoenix-market starting compensation for EIT hires.
  • PE exam pass bonus.
  • Multi-state licensure and renewal fees covered as you become licensed.
  • Clear runway into project leadership as the firm grows.
